Water Quality Monitoring Program
In partnership with the Ministry of Environment, two dedicated volunteers – Dave Beattie and Glen Brewer – did sampling for over a decade. In 2014, this task was taken over by Leo Morand who was trained by Dave Beattie. This sampling is done bi-weekly for the Christina Lake Stewardship Society, providing a large set of data revealing trends over the years. Sampling is also done in the spring and fall by the Ministry of Environment (MOE). The bi-weekly sampling involves temperature and Secchi depth readings, whereas the MOE sampling looks at chemical, physical and biological parameters. These calculations are done in two areas, the North basin and the South basin of the lake, and the exact spot is determined by GPS co-ordinates. The 2015 summary of results is below.
