"Environmental Ethics that Work"

Wildlife

Otters a North end of Lake

The Christina Lake Watershed provides a diverse array of wildlife habitat types. From lowland floodplains to alpine slopes, these habitats support a myriad of wildlife species. While some may value wildlife for their potential economic values, for others the aesthetic, spiritual or intrinsic values of wildlife provides powerful images that help define the very essence of our interconnection and place on this planet. This meaningful connection helps us to better understand that the health of our wildlife is an indication of the health of the environment on which we depend, and that healthy wildlife populations and habitat are important to our social and economic well-being. In order to preserve the environmental qualities that are important for all species, governments, industry, and the general public must ensure that proper land use planning with a stewardship ethic prevails. This year’s bulletin has been developed to help you learn more about some of the wildlife in our watershed and what you can do to help protect them. This is not a complete account of all of the species present here, but a sampling of the wildlife diversity within our watershed. This issue includes Birds, Mammals, and Reptiles and Amphibians.
